How to Apply for Veterans Benefits
Students applying for benefits must first complete the registration process and enroll in classes at Pierce College. Eligibility for Veterans Benefits (Chapter Eligibility) can only be determined by the Department of Veterans Administration Muskogee Regional Office and is based on the number of credit hours (units) for which a student is enrolled monthly.
Please submit all the required documentation to the Financial Aid, Scholarships and Veterans Office during our regular business hours.
Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (Chapter 30), Post 9/11 (Chapter 33), Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606), and REAP (Chapter 1607)
1. Submit VA 22-1990 form
3. Submit DD-214 (copy member-4) or NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility DD-2384)
4. For Chapter 33 -- submit Notice of Eligibility
4. Registration Fee Receipt (Schedule of Classes) signed and dated by a Veterans Counselor
5. Agreement for Army College Fund (kicker), if eligible
6. Official transcripts from previous colleges
7. Educational Plan and Evaluation of Transcripts signed by a Veterans Counselor
Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31)
1. Complete Authorization Form VA 28-1905
3. Registration Fee Receipt (Schedule of Classes) signed and dated by a Veterans Counselor
4. Submit DD-214 (copy member-4)
5. Official transcripts from previous colleges
6. Educational Plan and Evaluation of Transcripts signed by a Veterans Counselor
Survivors and Dependents (Chapter 35)
1. Complete VA 22-5490 Form
3. Submit DD-214 and file number
4. Dependent children Birth Certificate or spouse's Marriage Certificate
5. Registration Fee Receipt (Schedule of Classes) signed and dated by a Veterans Counselor
6. Official transcripts from previous colleges
7. Educational Plan and Evaluation of Transcripts signed by a Veterans Counselor
Notes:
- Copies of transcripts must be in the Financial Aid, Scholarships and Veterans Office at the end of the first semester in which you were first certified. You will need to see the Veterans Counselor in the Counseling Office for an evaluation of your transcript(s).
- In order to expedite monthly payments, Veterans receiving funding from the Montgomery GI Bill Program are required to call the Department of Veterans Affairs at (877) 823-2378 at the end of each month to verify the status of their enrollment for that month.
