Welcome to ENCORE and EDUCATING THE EDUCATOR

 

What is ENCORE?

The Encore Program is composed of noncredit classes without required texts, exams, or term papers to write. The program is designed to offer lifelong education that will provide opportunities for personal growth and development, survival skills needed for self-maintenance, and economic self-sufficiency. The college will offer a variety of ENCORE classes, ranging  from art and music appreciation to learning how to use the internet.    Physical Education, Music, Art, and Literature are among the course offerings which are currently provided

Why EDUCATING THE EDUCATOR?

The EDUCATING THE EDUCATOR FOR ENCORE course includes pedagogical issues which will help facilitate the development of courses for the ENCORE program. This course consists of educational theories/practices, teaching methodologies, learning styles, testing, evaluation, and curriculum development geared towards educating the older adult.

The course is organized around two major themes: 1) the application of knowledge and 2) learner focused. The lessons are designed to apply what is being taught, but to also stay learner focused by giving choices and by designing participatory learning assignments.

This is a required course (2 units) for instructors who will be instructing students for the ENCORE program.

COURSE POLICIES

Late Work: All work must be completed by the specified date as deemed by your individual contract.

Safeguards: Back up every piece of work you do on disk, and make a hard copy. If you experience computer difficulties, you are responsible for solving your own technical problems. You might want to consider logging on at other times if possible.

Deadlines: This course must be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a non credit instructor.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 
  • Familiarity with concepts of educational psychology
  • Adapting your teaching style to a variety of learning styles
  • Understanding the scope of assessment and locating online tools to support testing/evaluation
  • Awareness of components of curriculum design evaluation

  • Quiz after each unit
  • Final Project
